Canary Wharf Man and Van Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement is made on behalf of Canary Wharf Man and Van in respect of the financial year ending 31 December. It sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. We recognise our responsibility to uphold human rights and to conduct business ethically, transparently, and lawfully.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Canary Wharf Man and Van provides local and regional moving, transportation, and related support services. Our operations involve direct employees, contracted drivers, vehicle hire companies, fuel providers, equipment suppliers, and facilities management partners. We understand that labour exploitation can occur in transport, logistics, cleaning, and temporary labour arrangements, and we actively work to identify and mitigate these risks.
Zero-Tolerance Approach to Modern Slavery
We have a clear, zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking. This applies to our own operations and to all third parties who provide goods or services to us. We are committed to ensuring that people working within our business and supply chains are employed freely, treated with dignity and respect, and are not exposed to unsafe or exploitative conditions.
Any employee, contractor, or supplier found to be involved in modern slavery or in serious violation of our ethical standards may face termination of employment or contract, and, where appropriate, referral to the relevant authorities.
Supplier Standards and Due Diligence
We expect all suppliers and contractors to uphold the same high standards that we follow. As part of our onboarding and ongoing relationship management, suppliers are required to confirm that they comply with all applicable labour, employment, and human rights laws and that they do not tolerate modern slavery in their own operations or supply chains.
We conduct proportionate due diligence based on the nature, location, and risk profile of each supplier. This may include reviewing company policies, requesting written confirmations of compliance, and assessing labour practices where required.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
To support our zero-tolerance policy, we carry out supplier audits and checks, focusing on higher-risk areas such as labour-intensive services, cleaning, temporary labour agencies, and logistics support. These audits may include site visits, document reviews, and discussions with management.
Where we identify concerns or non-compliance, we work with the supplier to implement a corrective action plan within a defined timeframe. If a supplier fails to address issues or shows unwillingness to improve, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate the business relationship.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
We encourage all employees, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers to report any suspicion or concern relating to modern slavery or unethical labour practices. Concerns can be raised confidentially through internal reporting channels, including speaking to a line manager, senior management, or designated compliance contact.
Reports will be handled sensitively and investigated promptly. We do not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against any person who raises a concern in good faith. Where necessary, we will engage with law enforcement and relevant authorities to support investigations.
Training and Awareness
We provide training and guidance to relevant employees, particularly those involved in procurement, supplier management, and site operations. The aim is to help them recognise the signs of modern slavery, understand how to respond to concerns, and apply our policies consistently.
We also communicate our expectations to suppliers, so they understand our standards and the importance we place on ethical and lawful working conditions.
Ongoing Review and Continuous Improvement
We are committed to continuously improving our approach to tackling modern slavery. This statement and our supporting procedures are reviewed at least annually, or more frequently if required by changes in legislation, business operations, or identified risks.
As part of the annual review, we assess the effectiveness of our actions, including the outcomes of any audits, investigations, and training initiatives. We use these findings to enhance our due diligence processes, strengthen controls, and refine our training and communication.
This Modern Slavery Statement has been approved by the management of Canary Wharf Man and Van and will be updated each year to reflect our ongoing efforts to prevent modern slavery and protect human rights across our business and supply chains.
